RN, Clinical Director

SUMMARY

The Clinical Director provides overall clinical leadership, direction, and accountability for the Surgery Center, assuming responsibility for operational planning, organizational development, budgeting, human resource development, recruitment, and public relations.  This includes implementing process improvement initiatives and collaboration with physician shareholders. Operational aspects include the clinical operations, compliance and regulatory, budgetary/finance, human resources, physician relations, and regulatory body compliance and risk management. Work closely with Surgery Center shareholders and hospital leadership to accomplish the goals of the Surgery Center. Plays a prominent role in strategic and business planning activities of the Surgery Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for developing and managing the operational activities for the Surgery Center in collaboration with the clinical leadership and the physician leadership.  Develop reports and data tools that support the Surgery Center’s strategic plans. Coordinate the budgeting process with clinical leadership. Review and evaluate operations to ensure efficiencies and devises methods to contain or decrease overhead expenditures.  Provide ongoing financial analysis as it relates to budgetary performance. Coordinate budget restructuring to decrease costs and or/enhance revenues. Trend case volume and create business model projections for the Surgery Center.  Review network of vendors and suppliers to determine most cost-effective manner to achieve business goals. Serve as a liaison for the Surgery Center between the hospital leadership and the shareholders. Perform cost benefit analyses for new technology and/or procedures. Demonstrate appropriate verbal and written communication skills interpersonal skills that reflect ASC business and fiscal sensitivity. Problem solves clinical issues. Demonstrate the ability to recognize errors, unusual trends, problems and system changes in all areas that affect work and offer solutions to problems. Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of equipment and budget related activities.  Maintain current knowledge in area of responsibility and participate in professional associations relevant to the Surgery Center. Maintaining and renewing Center’s state licensure, pharmacy license and DEA registration. Ensuring facility has proper supply of medications and control medication expense. Ensuring compliance with pyxis medications and medication security. Ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures CMS and HFAP rules and regulations for management of radiation and laser safety. Ensuring all physicians are properly credentialed and privileged and that medical staff files meet criteria for supporting documentation. Review work of the medical staff office to ensure compliance with management agreement. Utilize appropriate leadership skills and serve as a role model for effective teamwork. Participate in committee related activities (both standing and ad-hoc of the hospital, governing body and medical staff.) Stay abreast of trends in healthcare by participating in professional development activities, by reading current and relevant literature and other sources. Meet with patients and visitors as necessary; work with appropriate individual(s) to assist in the resolution of issues/problems/complaints. Exemplify excellent customer relations towards patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers; hold subordinates accountable for compliance with the hospital’s philosophy and policy of promoting a positive work atmosphere and a customer friendly environment. Responsible for all other functions and activities delegated to the position by the Executive Administrator ASC Management, CRH or President/CEO of CRH.

Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years health care management experience with demonstrated success in operations of a free-standing surgery center or similar ambulatory environment required. Demonstrated executive and entrepreneurial skills required to maintain a business in a very competitive marketplace; implement effective operational practices, establish a referral base, secure payor contracts and build community relations to assure long term growth and business viability.

Education: 

Bachelor's degree in a relevant healthcare field required.

Master's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.

Preferred: Professional licensure (RN) and Ambulatory Surgery clinical experience. Prior experience working in a joint ventured environment. Business operations and management experience in a busy ambulatory surgery environment; solid understanding of the various surgical specialties and technical/clinical issues surrounding a surgical enterprise.
