Position Description

The Registered Professional Nurse at Northside Hospital independently plans and provides professional nursing care to patients in accordance with physician orders and established guidelines, and in accordance with the scope of practice as defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act.

Administers chemotherapy and blood products, monitors patients for associated side effects, initiates appropriate measures as indicated, and utilizes skills associated with vascular access devices. Provides care to patients receiving radiation therapy, taking into consideration source of radiation and length of exposure. Provides care to oncology patients following extensive surgery which may or may not involve plastic reconstruction and grafting. Provides care to minimize or alleviate symptoms associated with cancer and cancer therapies. Provides emotional support and facilitates coping of patients and families living with cancer. Provides support to the dying patient and family. Prior to administering chemotherapy, attends a formal chemotherapy administration training course, a similar hospital-based chemotherapy training, or a department-based chemotherapy competency assessment.

Position Requirements

REQUIRED:

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations. Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as a RN post-orientation or post-residency training. Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS). Other REQUIRED cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS, etc.) are unit specific. Please refer to the specific clinical unit. PREFERRED:
