**General Description**
The Pre-op/PACU RN will assist in providing high quality care during the pre-op and post-op phase of the patient's visit.
**Responsibilities**
+ Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery;
+ Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct;
+ Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure;
+ Assess patients’ post-operative condition;
+ Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress to ensure patient is meeting discharge criteria;
+ Document all findings in patient files;
+ Answer patient questions to ensure patient comfort;
+ Monitor patients for condition changes, report any changes to physician;
+ Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies;
+ Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care;
+ Other responsibilities as needed/assigned.
**Qualifications**
+ Current unrestricted NYS RN license;
+ Minimum of 2 years previous PACU or critical care experience required;
+ Ability to effectively communicate with providers, patients and peers;
+ Candidate must demonstrate aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping flow to reasonable time frame in post-operative care;
+ Specialized knowledge, skill and abilities in perioperative nursing;
+ Capable of decision making when applicable.
**Other Information**
+ Ability to travel to various OrthoNY locations if needed. Reliable transportation is essential.
+ Schedules are Monday through Friday; No weekends, holidays, or on-call.
+ Status: Full-time, Non-exempt
+ Location: Albany, Executive Woods Surgery Center
