What You Will Do: 

The Trauma Program Coordinator (TPC) is responsible for supporting a system for the care of adult trauma patients and their families. The TPC coordinates, directs, integrates, and evaluates the overall activities of the program and works in conjunction with the Trauma Program Medical Director. Responsibilities include development and implementation of program directives, management of the Performance Improvement Initiatives, clinical education, community outreach, and maintaining knowledge of current research.

Administrative
• Maintains current knowledge and ensures compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACS) criteria as outlined in the Resource for Optimal Care Guidelines and compliance with the Ohio Revised Code for trauma care.
• Completes all documents required for ACS and local, state, national organizations.
• Coordinates and integrates the clinical and administrative factors related to the care of the trauma patient.
• Provides budgetary information and assistance as appropriate.
• Represents the Trauma Program on various medical center and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management.
• Supervises adherence to medical center policies and procedures and standards through observation, medical record review, staff feedback, and other appropriate sources.

Clinical Activities
• Assess the needs for policies, procedures, protocols, clinical pathways, supplies, and equipment relating to the care of trauma patients in coordination with the Trauma Medical Director, hospital administration, and multidisciplinary clinicians.
• Develops policies and procedures based on current literature, input from clinicians, and other sources, facilitates implementation.
• Serves as a resource for clinical practice.
• Coordinates with physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff to evaluate and address specific patient care issues.
• Monitors care and documents accordingly.
• Monitors and evaluates patient outcomes for continuity in intervention over time, and through systems, and modifies the plan of care as necessary.

Research Activities
• Maintains knowledge of research activity and practice guidelines.
• Participates in research with tertiary center as appropriate.
• Assures evidenced-based support for all trauma standards of care.
Educational Activities
• Develops, coordinates and implements nursing education, medical education, in service programs related to the care and management of trauma patients in conjunction with the respective education departments.
• Directs community trauma education and prevention programs in conjunction with the Community Outreach Department and other community sources (i.e. Red Cross, local fire departments).
• Participates in mandatory educational activities and in educational activities appropriate to professional goals.
• Participates in case review.

Educational Activities

Performance Improvement Activities
• Assists the Trauma Program Medical Director and hospital administration in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a quality plan that is multidisciplinary and focused on patient outcomes.
• Serves as the coordinator of the identification, investigation, reporting and follow up of incidents and quality issues throughout the program, while maintaining confidentiality.

Trauma Registry
• Oversee collection, coding, scoring, and developing of processes for validation of data entered into the registry.
• Designs registry data into usable reports to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports and research, while protecting confidentiality.

Consultant/Liaison
• Serves as a resource for staff in all departments.
• Serves as a liaison for the Trauma Program, internally and externally.
• Takes a lead in development/revising and implementing policies and procedures.
• Develops collaborative relationships with other departments to facilitate and support quality trauma care.
• Practices and promotes positive guest and peer relations.

Community and National Involvement in Trauma Care Systems
• Participates in the development of trauma care systems at the community, state, and/or national levels.

What You Will Need: 

Must be a Registered Nurse with current, valid, unrestricted Ohio License. Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred or related experience. Strong clinical background as demonstrated by 3 years of Critical Care or Emergency Department experience required. Maintains at least 16 hours of continuing education related to trauma per year. Current TNCC verification mandatory, with consideration to TCAR and TOPCI, BLS & ACLS required, PALS or ENPC highly preferred. Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of management and staff.
