Job Description Summary:

Responsible for performing cardiac stress testing via all modalities (exercise or chemical) in conjunction with all related departments (Echocardiograph, Nuclear Medicine).Responsible for the coordination/assisting of transesophageal echocardiograms and performing tilt table procedures for physicians in the echo department. Supports the mission, vision, and values of The West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center and, under the direction of the Director of Cardiology, contributes to the accomplishment of the purpose of the Cardiac Stress Testing Unit and the echo department. Under the general direction of the Director of Cardiology, the RN is responsible for the assigned shift as scheduled including on call status. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Obtains accurate patient history and physical assessment and reviews diagnostic data in order to stratify patient’s risk level and individualize patient’s plan of care.

Identifies patients’ cardiovascular and pulmonary risk factors and individual risk factors and reports any concerns to the appropriate physician.

Provides direct care of outpatient and inpatient population by completing cardiac stress tests, tilt tables and assist physician with transesophageal echocardiogram in accordance with the department’s policies and procedures.

Monitors, corrects and reports patient’s status and progress throughout the procedure and reports when appropriate to the physician.

Provides complete and accurate documentation of procedures performed.

Collaborates with any related team members, physicians, and/or departments to coordinate care and provide continuity of care.

Performs related tasks and all other activities/tasks as directed by the Department Director/supervisor.

Serves as a positive role model of heart healthy lifestyle.

Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department and hospital, perform any related responsibility as required or directed and greet guest in accordance to our Guest Excellence principles.

Responsible for immediate medical emergency support of patients in accordance with ACLS and hospital policy.

Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Completion of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree in nursing required; BSN preferred.

 

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse as approved by the Tennessee Board of      Nursing for practice in the state of Tennessee

Responsible for Continuing Education units annually

BLS and ACLS certifications must be obtained within the orientation period, and   certification must be kept current while in this position

 

EXPERIENCE:

Twelve months in cardiovascular/pulmonary nursing. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and to initiate and assist in emergency lifesaving procedures as ordered by a physician.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the nursing profession as normally acquired through the completion of a diploma, associated, or baccalaureate degree in nursing.

Ability to communicate with and motivate patients and their families consistently with a positive effect. Must also display active participation in keeping current in cardiovascular/pulmonary literature and related issues.
