Position Summary:
Provides dialysis related care to patients in need of renal replacement therapy. Collaborates closely with medical practitioners, dietitians, social workers, and vascular access departments to meet the needs of the patient during dialysis treatments.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates the competent skills to perform IHD and SLED treatments as per nephrologist orders and shall provide appropriate assessment, evaluation, ongoing monitoring and interventions per facility policies and procedures
Ensures dialysis machines and equipment are maintained in good working order per policy
Assists in preparing dialysis treatment areas with needed supplies prior to starting treatments and demonstrates knowledge of nursing procedures and nursing care as it relates to renal replacement therapy
Demonstrates outstanding communication and education skills to patients ensuring understanding, comfort, safety, and privacy
Facilitates interdisciplinary communication in delivering patient care in a timely fashion
Demonstrates the ability to be self-directed and function independently in the dialysis setting
Strictly adheres to all infection prevention practices and demonstrates best practice principles for dialysis vascular access care
Adheres to all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations as they pertain to the department and/or regulatory agencies
Position requires on-call availability on a regular basis
The ability to arrive at the hospital within 1 hour of a call in is a requirement
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Performs other related duties as assigned
Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program required
State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the “multistate privilege to practice” compact with Idaho prior to start date
BSN required
BLS required
At least 2 years’ experience in dialysis nursing preferred
Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred
Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift and move up to 35 lbs
Must be able to maintain a standing position
Typical equipment used in a clinical job
Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend
Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
Must be able to assist in patient transfer
Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
