What you will need:

Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.Experience: Minimum one year Cardiac Cath Lab experience or two years critical care experience.Current State of Illinois License.American Heart Association CPR CertificationAmerican Heart Association ACLS CertificationClinical skills, sound judgment, communication skills and organizational skills.Knowledge of EKG and recognition of arrhythmias.Knowledge of Hemodynamic monitoring and waveform recognition.Knowledge of emergency drugs.Knowledge of aseptic techniques.Knowledge of IABP care and insertion.Knowledge of Equipment: Specialized equipment in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

A Brief Overview:
As a team member, the Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse works with the Cath Lab staff as a liaison between patient, family and cardiologists. Performs in various capacities, including circulating nurse and scrub nurse.  Involved with patient teaching as well as other related duties as assigned.

PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to recognize the needs and behaviors of the adult cardiac patient. Must be aware of the differences of patient ages and have the knowledge of the special needs to provide for the care of the patients.

Contact with hospital ancillary staff.Contact with patients and their families.Contact with physicians and cardiologists.

ENVIRONMENT

Sometimes fast paced, but pleasant and cheerful.Some sitting, mostly standing and walking.Lifting and moving of equipment on a regular basis with patient transfer, carrying supplies and equipment 75% of the time; wearing a 25 lb. lead apron and panning during the procedure at 50% of the time.Minimal exposure to radiation daily, complying with radiation safety factors.Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
