Position Summary:

 

Assists the Unit Director with the responsibility and accountability for the management of the unit. Emphasis on independent decision making related to the nursing process. Demonstrates the ability to provide consistent direction for all nursing personnel in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nursing activities.

 

Qualifications:

 

A. Education:

 

Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.

 

B. Training and Experience:

 

1. Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.

 

2. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire or transfer to department.

 

3. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association within 12 months of hire or transfer to department.

 

4. Trauma Nurse Care Course (TNCC) within 18 months of hire or transfer to department.

 

5. Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 18 months of hire or transfer to department. (Current employees must obtain 18 months from date of policy change)

 

6. Eighteen months full time experience as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) preferred (if less than 18-month experience, administrative approval must be obtained).

 

7. Completion of ENA Modules within 6 months of being assigned by unit Director. Equivalent courses can be approved by unit director.
