RN Clinical Documentation Specialist
Position Summary:
Responsible for facilitating the improvement in the overall quality, completeness and accuracy of the provider-based clinical documentation in the medical record.
Responsibilities:
Assigns codes based on the documentation to obtain a working DRG Analyzes the medical record to identify gaps in documentation Composes queries to providers to obtain clarification of the documentation, following compliant query practice guidelines Serves as a resource and participates in the ongoing education of clinicians relating to clinical documentation improvement concepts and coding guidelines to ensure that clinical information utilized in profiling and reporting is complete and accurate Utilizes software systems to collect, track and report outcomes and maintain integrity of data collection Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function Completes mandatory training requirementsRequirements and Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program required. State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with Idaho prior to start date Licensed RN with a minimum 3 years’ patient-facing RN experience at time of hire, ADN or diploma required; BSN or higher preferred All non-BSN RN's with less than 3 years’ patient-facing RN experience at time of hire are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing within 1 year of employment, with completion within 3 years of hire Minimum of 5 years of acute care clinical experience, with preferred focus in ED, critical care and cardiology Current certification in CDIP-Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner or CCDS-Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist and/or willingness to obtain CCDS/CDIP certification after 2 years of CDI experience Clinical background in a variety of settings Previous experience in clinical documentation preferred DRG and coding background preferred
