GP2 is a 24-bed advanced acute care medical/surgical unit. We provide complex patient care for a wide variety of medical diagnoses that require inpatient care and hospitalization. This includes the need for telemetry and frequent observation. We see patients with pneumonia, COPD, cardiac conditions, renal disorders, GI disorders and sepsis as well as postoperative patients.
We are an ideal unit for those who enjoy a fast-paced environment and enjoy working as a team. GP2 works closely with the emergency room and PACU departments. GP2 offers a valuable experience for those who want to pursue ER work or may have an interest in becoming a critical care nurse in the future.
Each of the nurses with an assignment have a patient care technician assigned to them. The patient care technicians complete the care that does not require a license. This includes vital signs, glucose testing, EKG’s, hygiene, simple dressing changes, discontinuation of foley catheters, IV sites and many other patient care needs.
GP2 licensed nursing staff also have access to our virtual RN’s partners who can help with admissions and discharges
Geisinger Medical Center is proud to receive ANCC Magnet Recognition®, the highest and most prestigious distinction a health care organization can receive for nursing practice and quality patient care.
