Key Position Details:
Tier 1: Current RN ICU Experience required– ECMO and open-heart recovery training required
Tier 2: Current RN ICU Experience required- minimum 6 months total
Tier 3: 6 months current RN
ANW Telemetry experience or 1-year current experience required in areas: Telemetry, PACU, ED required
Abbott’s 32-bed Cardiovascular (CV) ICU is a highly complex cardiothoracic and coronary care unit. It is a very well-known heart center caring for some of the most critical patients in the area. Typical patients: heart failure patients with pulmonary artery catheters, Phase one open heart recovery, LVAD implantation, heart transplantation, ECMO, post cardiac-arrest, continuous renal replacement therapy, high acuity post MI patients from the Cath lab +/- intra aortic balloon pump. Length of stay is very variable- some patients transfer out the next day and complicated cardiac arrests can stay over a month. Nurses have one or two patients. There is a good mix of experienced and new nurses. They are a quaternary center for patients to transfer to for cardiac intensive care. Treatments are provided on our unit that are not available at other centers.
Job Description:
Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. This includes establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family. As a leader and the integrator of care, the professional nurse has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating and evaluating the patient’s care needs.
Provides specialized care to patients who are severely ill or injured. May practice in an intensive care unit or in a care area that requires the expertise of the critical care nurse.
Principle Responsibilities
◦ Demonstrates ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operation, collaborates effectively with unit staff, leadership and other disciplines.Preceptor (only when acting in this role).
◦ Demonstrates ability to identify the orientee's learning needs, plans appropriate learning experiences and demonstrates ability to validate clinical competence of orientee.Other duties as assigned.
