Description:

St. Joseph's College of (SJCON) offers a single purpose, hospital-based, Associate in Applied Science Degree with a major in Nursing.  SJCON offers several program options: 1) the traditional weekday format that follows an academic calendar over a two-year timeframe, 2) the Dual Degree Partnership in Nursing (DDPN) option, the Evening/Weekend (E/WE) option, in which students attend on alternating weekends and one evening per week for 18 months; and 4) the accelerated evening/weekend (ADDPN) option that is offered in the same 18-month timeframe to allow students with a BA or BS degree in another field to pursue both an Associate and Bachelor's degree in nursing. Both options offer a dual degree pathway established through a partnership with Le Moyne College (LMC). The college has been designated as a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence ( 1 of only 57 nationally) and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing (ACEN), and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).

Responsibilities:

Develop, coordinate, lead, and facilitate the theoretical and clinical education of nursing students.Contribute to curriculum development, evaluation and revision through participation in Faculty Organization and its standing committees and shared governance.Maintain the prescribed faculty workload including advisement and committee responsibilities.Responsible for collaboration, communication & facilitation of optimal provision of care delivered by students with assistance of computerized &/or digital platform that supports the daily management of care.Maintains current knowledge of basic health care economics, trends and reimbursements methodologies and applies knowledge to daily practice. Recognizes situations that require immediate intervention. Continues to develop professionally and apply knowledge and skills necessary to supervise/provide care appropriate to each patient.Ensures quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.Act as 1) mentor; 2) clinician; 3) educator; 4) consultant/collaborator; and 5) navigator.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York. Master’s degree with a major in nursing from an accredited program required. Minimum of four years’ experience in nursing.  Formal teaching experience and supervision of students in a medical, surgical or specialty area is desired. National League for Nursing Certification as a Nurse Educator is preferred. Competent in BLS/CPR rescues, BLS Instructor desired.Specialized professional knowledge in area of expertise as designated by teaching assignment.  General knowledge in nursing practice required.  Able to analyze, develop, implement, evaluate and revise classes, clinical experiences and curricula.  Computer literacy preferred on hire and required to maintain the position.Participates in orientation and continuing education.  Maintains knowledge of stages of human development appropriate to the age of patients served in assigned area.

Special Equipment, Skills and Other Requirements:       

The faculty member must have the ability to develop, implement and evaluate classes and clinical experiences for nursing students based on a curriculum.  Effectively communicates complex information with precise language to students, faculty, staff, patients and families. 

Work Environment and Hazards:

Clinical, classroom and office settings.  Hazards include exposure to communicable diseases and risk of physical injury.  Exposure Class I.

Physical Demands:

Occasional exposure to conditions which may be considered particularly disagreeable to sight, touch, sound, smell & tastes; May encounter fumes, orders, dusts, mists & gases, along with biohazards / hazards (mechanical, electrical, burns, chemicals, radiation, sharp objects, etc.); Occasionally subject to noise, infectious waste, diseases & conditions.Includes the need to be physically & mentally capable to perform nursing processes.

Pay Range: $33.10 - $48.00

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
