RN House Supervisor - Monday through Friday, Day Shift

Description

The RN House Supervisor will work with the Surgery, Medical Surgical, and Emergency Departments. This position will coordinate with both ED and MS/Surgery nursing managers with day-to-day oversight of operations, regulatory compliance, etc. Schedule Monday - Friday day shift, variable exceptions. Surgery/circulator experience preferred.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1.  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
2.  Minimum of 5 years of RN experience in an acute care setting.
3.  Demonstrates administrative and supervisory ability.
4.  Demonstrates ability to lead/direct others and to work effectively with persons of varied background and educational experience.
5.  Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills consistent with Relationship Based Care (RBC), Commitment to Co-worker, Munson Medical Center’s Mission and Values.
6.  Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice including the nursing process.
7.  Additional education in management principles and teaching is preferred.


ORGANIZATION

1.  Under direct and general supervision of the Admission Manager, may also receive direction from the Vice President Patient Care Services, and any/all Directors and Managers of Patient Care Services.
2.  Works collaboratively with all nursing and non-nursing managers throughout the organization.
3.  Functions within approved nursing, medical, and hospital standards and policies.
4.  Provides general direction, supervision, and consultation for the work and activities of the Staff on assigned shift of operation.


STANDARDS OF PRACTICE

1.  Assessment


Records and evaluates staffing patterns for all inpatient nursing units each shift.
Observes the general shift operations for the presence of or potential for problem situations in the physical and emotional environment.

2.  Diagnosis/Problem Identification


Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration in data analysis and decision making processes.

3.  Identification of Outcomes


Directs, maintains, and evaluates processes that promote Relationship Based Care and desired patient-centered outcomes that are culturally sensitive and inclusive of patient/family needs according to accepted standards of clinical nursing practice.
Assists in the utilization of the PCSS database to ensure appropriate staffing ratios.
Promotes the integration of clinical, human resource, and financial data to support decision-making.

4.  Planning


Supports organizational and Unit Action Council plans related to the delivery of unit based nursing services and patient care.
Develops and implements goals and objectives annually in concert with the Administrative goals. Reviews and reports on progress quarterly and revises as necessary.
Evaluates need for immediate intervention in family crisis situations and Medical Social Work involvement when available.

5.  Implementation


Facilitates staff participation in decision-making as it relates to the specification of resources necessary for implementation of patient care.
Assures the proper disposition of the deceased; notifies the Medical Examiner per protocol.
Assists in scheduling surgical cases and outpatient medical procedure cases.
Assists Admitting Representatives with the placement and/or transfer of patients.
Assists Environmental Services in arranging the cleaning of late discharged patient’s rooms.
Facilitates the process for Work Injuries, For Cause Drug testing and Exposures.

8.  Resource Utilization


Facilitates inter-hospital transfers following the One-Call and Inter-Facility Transfer Communication Process flows.
Assigns staff according to acuity and census needs of the inpatient-nursing units each shift.
Acts as the liaison between nursing personnel; between nursing and other employees, physicians, visitors, and patients.
Activates Disaster Plan in conjunction with the Administrator on-call; is responsible for coordinating the plan from activation to all clear unless/until relieved.
Provides an immediate response to all emergency situations.
Calls in on-call personnel after hours when necessary.
Communicates with TV/radio/the press to relate conditions of accident victims.
Assures the notification of Gift-of-Life on all hospital deaths.
Assists Charge Nurses and Unit Managers with staffing issues.
Tabulates census and probable discharges of patients for bed availability.
