Responsibilities
The professional registered nurse is responsible for using the nursing process to identify patient needs and priorities of care through assessment, planning and delegation of care based on patient needs, therapeutic interventions, and evaluation of the patient’s response. The nurse is expected to incorporate and demonstrate the message of St. Gabriel’s stated mission, including its Christian ethics, philosophy and values. The nurse will conduct, coordinate and integrate nursing research into the Quality Improvement of patient care. Under the direction of and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment, and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. The Registered Nurse serves in a multidisciplinary capacity providing services to a wide variety of populations including adults, geriatric, pediatric, medical, surgical, ambulatory, orthopedic, ante-partum and nursery areas.
