Number of beds on unit:Deliver approximately       1300 babies each year18 Labor Delivery       Recovery Postpartum (LDRP) Rooms10 Antepartum/Postpartum       Rooms5 Triage Rooms2 Operating Rooms7 Level II Nursery RoomsPatient population (age,      diagnosis, specifics about unit):Provide Women and       Children’s services to families throughout Central IllinoisLevel II Nursery with       neonatology servicesNurse to Patient ratio:A Nursing Care Committee       collaborates to establish patient acuity based guidelines for nursing       staffing levels, and develops the hospital inpatient staffing plan. The       Committee’s planning takes into account evidence based staffing and care       standards established by professional nursing organizations, as well as       measurable patient and staffing outcomes, nurse sensitive quality       indicators, and financial stewardship metrics.Department culture and      resources:The Mother Baby Unit       culture supports a professional shared governance structure where nurses       are empowered and encouraged to use their voices and share their       ideas.  It’s a culture where evidence-based practice is the norm,       and nurses collaborate with leaders to help shape the changes that impact       patient care. Nurses earn the trust of their patients through exceptional       care in an environment where they are valued. Frequent nursing      skills/equipment used: Mother-Baby Nurses provide       direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the       application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general       nursing care, responsibilities of Mother-Baby Nurses include (but are not       limited to): Coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan,       implement and evaluate both mother and infant care plans.  Monitors       bonding between mother and infant.  Performs emotional status checks       on mother. Supports mother and infant in their breastfeeding journey.        Involves and educates family/significant others in implementing best       practices for mother and infant care.
