RN - Operating Room, Middlebrook Ambulatory Surger
**TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** + Physically able to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and maintain varied body motions and positions for long periods of time + Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity + Requires the use of computers, EMR software + Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or instruments + Requires ability to hear, see and speak + Able to move up to 100 pounds + Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols in the English language + Requires working under variable conditions and/or working irregular hours + Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids **TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:** + Work is performed in the Operating Rooms and / or Procedure Room of the center with some involvement with business office and other clinical areas + Continuous multi-tasking skills required + Significant contact with staff/co-workers, patients and their families, other employers, physicians and their staff, and other members of the health care community + Minimal travel may be required. Attend conferences and meetings + Routinely deal with proprietary and confidential information **PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures + Develop an individualized perioperative plan of care + Implement the plan of care using the following interventions: + Protect patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects + Perform count procedures to protect patient from unintended retained foreign objects + Perform interventions necessary to ensure patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level + Manage patient’s specimen(s) in the appropriate manner + Communicate patient’s current status throughout the continuum of care + Administer medication(s) appropriately + Perform interventions to maintain patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels + Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems, and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels + Perform interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period + Perform interventions to protect patient from infection + Assess knowledge level of patient or designated support person and provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure + Actively involve patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the recovery process + Protect patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy + Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice + Provide consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting + Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes + Transfer care as appropriate + Delegate tasks as appropriate according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions + Document nursing care + Effectively scrub in for cases when needed + Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as appropriate + Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects + Participate in the performance appraisal process + Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members + Maintain required competencies + Attend required meetings and educational sessions + Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy of all appropriate information + Comply with State, Federal and Accreditation regulations and standards + Demonstrates knowledge of specific responsibilities in emergency situations + Performs other duties as assigned **QUALIFICATIONS:** + Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required + Current registered nurse licensure in State of employment + BLS / ACLS / PALS Certified, as applicable + CPAN, CAPA, and / or CNOR, preferred + Minimum of 3 years of operating room nursing experience in an ambulatory surgery center setting, preferred + Pediatric patient experience, preferred + Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards + Maintains regular attendance INDNUR Equal Employment Opportunity This organization does not discriminate in any way to deprive any person of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect the status of any employee because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status, or military or uniformed services, in accordance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations.
