GENERAL DUTIES

Performance Improvement Development and Analysis of Data for Trauma Patient Care

• Identifies Performance Improvement activities and develops corrective action
• Oversees concurrent data collection for all admitted trauma patients
• Supervises the collection of data for the trauma log, data collection sheets and the Emergency Department on a daily basis, cross checking for accuracy.
• Assists in identifying and developing performance improvement indicators pertinent to the care of the trauma patient
• Reports indicator fallouts to the Trauma Peer Review Committee and Trauma Nursing Administrator
• Implements standing PI processes as directed by the needs of the Trauma Program
• Justifies and incorporates adjustments to optimize the data collection process
• Identifies and sends data to approved state and national studies as directed by the Trauma Director

Clinical Activities
• Reviews patient charts, identifying PI issues to present to the Trauma Committee
• Oversees the collection of all available data on trauma patient throughout the continuum of care
• Gathers trauma registry data and assists the Trauma Program team in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the trauma program
• Reviews trauma indicators to ensure adherence to trauma protocols
• Schedules Performance Improvement conferences to ensure quality trauma patient care
• Communicates with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other members of the team to improve trauma care and promote patient welfare as needed to meet the needs of the trauma care plan
• Participates in the accreditation and certification of a Level I Trauma Center and assists in disseminating standards throughout the appropriate team members
• Identifies and establishes long and short term trauma program goals in collaboration with the Trauma Committee
• Participates in the development of trauma standards of care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines
• Coordinates and facilitates the Performance Improvement process in the physician and pre-hospital peer review committees
• Participates in hospital-wide trauma education for ancillary support services
• Identifies learning needs of trauma team members through findings of monitoring and evaluation activities
• Assists Department Directors throughout the continuum of care to prepare and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for trauma patients and trauma team members
• Plans, coordinates and participates in competency updating and verifying all trauma team members
• Serves on hospital committees as appointed

Research Activities
• Observes practice and investigate methods of delivering care to trauma patients
• Assists in the analysis of data compiled in the trauma registry
• Provides weekly, monthly and quarterly and ad-hoc reports to the Trauma Committee as needed
• Assists in formulating the Trauma PI research initiatives
• Assists in the investigation of problems and concerns related to trauma patient care


QUALIFICATIONS

3 years nursing experienceRN License

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Effective communication skills are a mandatory requirement.This role requires talents in critical thinking and skills to promote daily problem solving and conflict resolution.
