The Registered Nurse - RCU provides nursing care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of New York State and follows Loretto policy and procedures. The Registered Nurse - RCU assesses and evaluates the residents in their care in a post-acute environment by utilizing technology. The technology interpreted by the Registered Nurse - RCU includes telemetry monitoring, vital sign monitoring, non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring and as indicated, diagnostic tests such as laboratory and electrocardiogram (EKG). The Registered Nurse - RCU must work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members to assist residents in reaching their goals.

Responsibilities

Job duties specific to this position:

Follows nursing process principles: collects data, interprets and assesses data collected, formulates interventions based on analysis and assessment of data collected, monitors and assesses interventions for effectiveness, communicates results to appropriate team member (physician, peer or interdisciplinary team member), documents and revises the interventions as required based on evaluation. Reviews and evaluates patient care and documentation for appropriateness and quality and assists with development and revision of resident care plans.Assigns and monitors staff to ensure resident needs are met timely.Responds promptly to Rapid Response Team, emergency calls or Code Blue for assistance when assigned, performs triage as neededUnderstands the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) rules and regulations and incorporates requirements into practice as a matter of routine.Understands the needs of the resident’s family / significant other, and importance of their support role in that resident’s care and goal reaching.Understands the role of the RN within the Interdisciplinary Team and works collaboratively with all team members to assist residents with reaching goals in a safe manner.Integrates technological data obtained through monitoring devices (electronic and software) with established nursing assessment standards and communicates to the appropriate care level provider to effect timely interventions and documents.Demonstrates safe practice with medication and treatment administration, including intravenous therapy, and identifies and promptly reports any observation of adverse reaction or intolerance.Understands required diagnostic monitoring requirements associated with medications / treatments and facilitates physician understanding and follow through.Responsible and accountable for own practice.Must treat resident and employee information as confidential material.Follows Loretto policies and procedures.Respects residents’ rights and dignity.Reports any suspected resident abuse as required by government regulations and the nursing home policies.Attends all required in-services and seminars.Mandatory in-services must be met within time required.Required to follow established policies in regard to tardiness, attendance, and dress code.Serves as a positive ambassador to nursing home facility, residents, staff, visitors, and the community.

Qualifications Must possess a current, active license to practice as RN in the state of New York.BCLS and ACLS certified.Experience with ICU/CCU/ED or in an Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital preferred.Able to conduct EKGs.Able to perform venipuncture.Able to initiate Intravenous therapy.Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
