BP8 is a 19 bed, all private, inpatient unit that cares for patients who are admitted to the Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant Service. Nurses administer chemotherapy to many patients on this unit. Chemotherapy administration is done only when the RN has a minimum of one-year experience in nursing and successfully completes the chemotherapy administration orientation process, which incorporates guidelines provided by the Oncology Nursing Society.
Nursing staff work closely with the interdisciplinary team which consists of the physicians, physician assistants, care management, nutrition, chaplains and pharmacy. There is a pharmacy located on BP8. The pharmacy area prepares chemotherapy for administration for BP8 patients as well as inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients. Pharmacists are available as an excellent resource for nursing staff.
Employee engagement scores are top notch. Staff turnover is minimal and patient satisfaction scores are high. BP8 is very proud of the cohesiveness of the interdisciplinary team, which makes this unit a great place to work.
