Position Summary:
The RN, with the support of Guthrie Southern Tier Pediatrics, will provide the highest quality patient care consistent with GSTP Mission/Vision Statements to exceed our patients, families and the community’s expectations for exceptional patient care. The RN will continually demonstrate Patient Centeredness, Teamwork and Excellence in the daily performance of their duties. This position requires the ability to be self‐motivated, flexible, punctual, detail oriented along with having good time management skills and excellent communication skills.
Education, License & Cert:
Completion and Graduated from an R.N. Accredited Nursing Program.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, pediatric preferred, but not necessary. Good communication skills, computer knowledge, interest in health education, ability to work independently, ability to multitask, ability to remain calm in stressful/emergent situations, ability to oversee LPN telephone care nurse as necessary, current CPR and Infection Control.
Essential Functions:
1. Use standardized pediatric telephone care guidelines (Barton Schmitt Pediatric Telephone Protocols) to assess patient condition and provide for the following: home care advice per protocol/health education for callers (parents, guardians and patients), scheduling of same day sick appointments or directing patients to Emergency Room based on severity of condition determined via phone call. Manage eGutherie questions via in‐basket. Follows telephone performance standards.
2. Assess walk‐in patients to clinic and schedule as appropriate based on urgency and need.
3. Have the ability to work clinically on the floor as necessary, administering prescribed injections/medication and recording in EMR along with assisting providers during exam and treatment when requested as appropriate for RN licensure.
4. Follow up on patient’s lab tests, x‐rays and communicate results/follow up needed to patients per provider request.
5. Review overnight on call triage reports and follow up as needed.
6. Initiate and complete referral process when necessary with follow‐up referral specialist if needed.
7. Obtain prior authorizations for medications and procedures as needed.
8. Responsible for completing prescriptions left on the prescription line, sending additional electronic prescriptions per provider request via eGuthrie Surescripts.
9. Monitor refrigerators, freezers and incubator temps and record in NYSIIS to maintain proper temperature, relocate vaccines/medications if needed.
10. Maintain proficiency in use of computer equipment, programs and attend training as requested.
Other Duties:
1. Travel for training for this position is sometimes required.
2. Participation in community and employee engagement activities is sometimes required.

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $45.26 per hour.
