Summary :The Occupational RN provides patient/employee-centered, specialized, evidenced-based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. Contributes to the goals of the department and health system by being accountable for delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and ThedaCare policy. Is responsible for patient and employee outcomes that meet high quality of care standards while furthering the professional practice of nursing at ThedaCare by promoting a culture of innovation and a commitment to growth and professional development.

Job Description:

Key Accountabilities

Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of the workforce we serve, and develops a plan of care in a collaborative practice with the employee/patient, and interprofessional team.

Maintains current knowledge of employee health and occupational health & safety regulations to assists managers and staff with compliance and provide input to policy, procedures and protocols related to employee/occupational health services.

Collaborates with disability management team to assist employees with injury/exposure management and return to work process.

Monitors compliance with standards of care by observation, verbal reports, audits, and written documentation with feedback loops to department leaders, providers, and team members.

Plans for the care needs of the patient in collaboration with the inter-professional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.

Provides consultation and maintains positive relationships with physicians and other inter-professional team members, collaborating to problem solve and improve patient care.

Demonstrates clinical expertise in the provision of care in the clinical specialty assigned and performs functions in the professional clinical nurse that are age appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally specific.

Collaborates on department schedules, monitors staffing levels, and in the identification of workload variability to predict and plan for appropriate staffing to enhance productivity/efficiency while maintaining quality care.

Identifies ways to improve the patient and employee experience, streamline care processes, and lower costs while promoting patient, family, and team member satisfaction.

Contributes to a professional environment that encourages mentoring, engagement, and development to retain expert clinicians. Monitors and coordinates immunity testing and vaccination for employees to comply with policy as applicable.

Independently observe and assess the worker’s health with a focus on job hazards.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commitment to obtain within five years.  Associate’s Degree in Nursing accepted in lieu of BSN for those hired prior to 1/23/2017.

Three years of clinical experience required

American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.

COHN or CCM preferred but not required

Current Wisconsin RN licensure

Physical Demands

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

Work Environment

Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments

Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. 

Occasional high noise level in work environment.

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.

Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients.

Use of computers throughout work day

Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.

Schedule:
