Overview The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for identifying the patient's alterations in health, assessing the patient's human response to actual and potential health problems, implementing nursing interventions based on theoretical concepts from nursing and other arts and sciences to achieve outcomes for the patient that facilitate resolution of alterations in health and actual and potential health problems, determining the effectiveness of nursing interventions by evaluating anticipated patient outcomes as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Whenever possible, the patient, the family or those significant to the patient are an integral part of the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation efforts of the Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse is responsible to supervise/direct care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel. The Registered Nurse is responsible to assign/delegate care to other qualified members of the health care team. The RN coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed. Unit-based activities which contribute to a positive work and professional environment are performed. The Registered Nurse provides and coordinates care to achieve the organization's mission of excellent patient care and nursing's vision of setting a new standard of excellence in autonomous and accountable nursing practice committed to patient advocacy and innovative patient care in a climate of trust and collaboration. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: For all positions: � Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida � AMCCC and NRP required within one year of employment � Additional requirements: Based on aircraft weight limitations, must comply with weight restriction (maximum 240 pounds fully outfitted to perform the job) and a maximum height restriction of 6�3. For adult/pediatric positions: � Current EMT-Paramedic certification in the State of Florida � BLS, ACLS, PALS/ENPC/PEPP or equivalent � ITLS/PHTLS or TNCC � CFRN, CCRN or CEN required within two years of hire; or for neonatal/pediatric positions, another excepted national certification � Must possess a valid Florida Driver�s License and certification of completion of a Florida approved EVOC driving course, or be eligible to attend EVOC For neonatal/pediatric positions: � American Heart Association (AHA) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification � Completion of neonatal transport stabilization program within 1 year of hire � CFRN, CCRN or CEN required within two years of hire; or other accepted neonatal-related national certification Graduation from an approved nursing program. BSN preferred at time of hire; BSN required within three years of hire for all nurses hired after April 30, 2014. 3 years professional nursing practice experience required; 4-5 years preferred. May substitute 2 years of nursing experience with critical care, flight paramedic experience. For neonatal/pediatric positions, must have 2 years� full-time RN experience (4000 hours) of which one-year (2000 hours) must be in Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nursing in accordance with Chapter 464, F.S. Must complete a neonatal transport stabilization program within 1 year of hire. Prefer the following: Demonstrated clinical skills in pre-hospital, emergency and intensive care nursing Professional nursing board certification in specialty CFRN, CCRN or CEN at time of hire (NOTE: Specialty certification required within two years of specialty experience at Shands; or certification eligibility date for all nurses hired after June 2011) AMCCC and NRP preferred at hire (NOTE: required within one year of employment) Instructor statuses in ACLS, PALS and/or PHTLS preferred Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
