JOB SUMMARY
The RN - Week Day – Obstetrics provides and coordinates total nursing care for the obstetrical and newborn patient. Provides ongoing nursing assessment, determining physiological, psycho-social, and emotional needs of the patient and family in accordance with established philosophy, policies, and procedures. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred/Optional: Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Minimum Required: One year (2080 hours) of OB registered nursing experience in a like facility within the past three years, or if training position, one year of registered nursing experience. Demonstrates excellence in customer service and professional conduct. Possesses good communication skills. Interacts appropriately and positively with peers, patients, families, physicians, and professionals. Maintains professionalism in the community, protects the confidentiality of the patient and serves as a patient advocate at all times.
Knowledge/skills to assess and provide appropriate care interventions for the obstetrical and newborn patient. Ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and make appropriate, timely care decision. Able to seriously analyze patient flow and recognize importance of preplanning. Able to adapt quickly to fluctuations in census and patient acuity. Able to function adequately in stressful situations. Demonstrates ability to direct others and delegate appropriately.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Michigan. BCLS required within 30 days of hire.
Preferred/Optional: NPR certification, National Certification in Obstetrical Nursing Care or EFM.
