ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB North Carolina's Transportation Design practice is on the lookout for a passionate and talented Transportation / Roadway Engineer to join our dynamic Transportation team. With opportunities available in both our vibrant Raleigh and Charlotte offices, this role offers an exciting chance to engage with a team recognized for its innovative solutions and impactful work.

As part of VHB, you'll have the opportunity to work on multi-modal projects across North Carolina, from highways and interchanges to trail and bikeway designs, which are a testament to our approach to provide infrastructure designs for all communities and modes of travel. You'll work alongside experts in diverse disciplines, gaining invaluable exposure to a wide array of projects varying in size and scope, all while helping to shape the future of transportation in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

Design transportation improvements for roadway, intersection, trail, bike / ped, and interchange design; analyze/evaluate traffic improvements; support traffic/safety studiesDevelopment of geometric layout and design packages, utility coordination, signing and marking, and maintenance of traffic plansPrepare design plans per NCDOT and AASHTO design guidelinesPrepare Engineering cost estimates and quantity calculationsDevelop 3D Models of proposed designs utilizing Bentley Open Roads softwareConduct field reviews and document existing and as-built roadway conditionsServe as Task Lead and Deputy PM in Training

Skills and Attributes

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsSelf-motivatedAbility to think criticallyStrong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Excel in working in a team environmentEnthusiasm to learn and the ability to take responsibility

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering5-8 years of transportation design experience required8+ years of transportation design experience preferred NCDOT and local municipality experience is a plus with an understanding of NCDOT design criteria and plans development guidelinesExperience with MicroStation and Bentley Open Roads is requiredPE registration in North Carolina is required
