Title: CDL DriverEmployee status: Union/Non-exemptWork schedule: 4/10hr shifts. Starting around 5:30-6:30am Ending when the route is complete. Variable scheduled days off. Additional work on other days may be required as needed. Formal work week is from Sunday through Saturday. Workday includes 30 minute unpaid meal period and two paid 10 minute breaks.Wages: Starting wage $28.73 DOE.Per Union Collective Bargaining Agreement.Vacation: Per Union Collective Bargaining Agreement.Benefits: Company Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits (see Company benefit plan descriptions).Drug and alcohol testing: Subject to pre-employment drug testing and random selection drug and alcohol testing per DOT requirements and Company policy.Probationary period: 720 hours worked.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Responsible for safely operating collection equipment for the efficient and effective collection of solid waste, and delivering those materials to a designated disposal facility. Responsible for completing required administrative paperwork by use of an On-Board-Computer to maintain accurate company records and customer accounts. This Position requires you to work independently, in addition Drivers are expected to deliver excellence in customer service at all times. You may be cross trained in Automated Side Load Garbage Trucks, Front Load Garbage Trucks, and Roll Off Trucks.
Operates hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility;Drives truck to collect waste that has been prepared for collection in either carts or containers;Provides quality, uninterrupted waste collection service;Works with customers to assure the efficiency of the collection process and the satisfaction of the customer;Ability to read route sheets and service each customer identified on the sheet or assigned by the dispatcher;Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires;Maintains and submits a daily service log using On-Board- Computer;Completes daily reports on pre and post trip inspections of equipment;Fuels vehicle daily;Maintains the physical appearance of the equipment, including routine washing;Assists Leadman with customer improvements through service and equipment upgrades;Monitors over and under filled carts/containers to assess changing service requirements;Monitors the condition and repair needs of existing carts/containers;Provides technical support for design of enclosures and other space to assure they meet operational requirements;Participate in and support training and initiatives to improve service quality, safety, customer and employee relations, and operational efficiency and effectiveness.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and practical skill to safely, effectively and efficiently operate automated commercial waste collection equipment;Possess and maintain a valid Oregon Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class B with ability to obtain Class A;2 years of professional commercial driving experience;Meets insurance company standards for “good driving record”;Computer and technology skills that include Microsoft Office, tablet, smart phone and the ability to learn changing technologies used in the solid waste industry;English reading, writing, verbal and map reading skills required to read and follow route instructions, respond to written and oral instructions, to provide written documentation and to exchange information;Attention skill needed to ensure accuracy of records and reports;Verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a predominantly English speaking public to address customer frustrations and conflicts effectively, and maintain effective relationships with other employees;Skills of basic mathematics to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers;Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 65 pounds, and to work with others and or with mechanical tools to lift heavier objects;Ability to move heavy containers by pushing and pulling, and to work with others and or with mechanical tools to move heavier objects;Work at a continual and steady pace;Mobility to climb in and out of vehicle, bend, twist, lift objects, and walk on all types of surfaces;Able to function in all types of weather conditions from subfreezing cold to rain, to summer temperatures in excess of 100 degrees F;Pass randomly timed drug and alcohol tests in accord with DOT and company standards;Knowledge, skill and utilization of ergonomically safe operational practices;Knowledge, skill and use of hazardous material identification and handling practices;Knowledge, skill and use of protection practices for blood borne pathogens;Knowledge, skill and use of fire and other emergency practices;Punctual and reliable in work attendance and job performance;Ability to work independent of direct supervision and to respond with flexibility to potentially changing routes and service demands;CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
