The Health Information Management (HIM) Department performs a variety of duties to maintain patient records and to provide records to clinical departments and patients.
The Release of Information and Audit Technician is responsible for retrieving, and sending medical records and clinical reports for patient care, hospital/external agency reviews and other external audits. The individual is instrumental in coordination and execution of external audit requests. The process involves disclosing patient-identifiable information and must be performed in accordance with laws and guidelines set forth by the various State, Federal and HIPAA regulations and hospital policy.
Responsibilities:
• Travels to CHA Network wide locations to perform HIM related duties.
• Can handle high call volume
• Coordinates and processes ROI requests from all entities, including subpoenas and court orders.
• Opens mail, stamps and enters all requests into the Release of Information module.
• Performs quality review of chart for proper documentation.
• Provides excellent customer service assisting patients and customers.
• Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Coordinates and completes medical record audits or medical record review requests
• Experience with copy machines, auto faxing, PDF conversion, download documents, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma/GED required.
Successful completion of anatomy and physiology based medical terminology course required.
Preference given to candidates interested in HIM as evidenced by enrollment in a RHIT or RHIA program.
