The Route Supervisor will be responsible for developing a thorough understanding of the Company’s transportation requirements and patterns. They will review and process day to day operations, evaluate and recommend equipment needs, and plan and schedule appropriate service lines to maintain a cost-effective balance between customer service and cost of service. They will ensure compliance with all government related programs specific to mode and direction of related haulage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct supervisor for all residential contracts and assist with Front end and roll off divisions.
• Print off routes and organize clipboards and phones.
• Perform Incident investigations as needed.
• Manage and attend all Health and Safety meetings and train employees on any safety issues.
• Review the commercial and residential collections trip sheets for accuracy.
• Assist in preparing the daily schedule of operations.
• Manage and provide leadership for all direct reporting employees.
• Manage customer complaints and concerns, document and file closed issues.
• Manage any HR concerns with staff on Hiring, discipline, vacations and WSIB.
• Perform OBA’s with drivers and loaders.
• Fill in driver/loader as needed.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Provide training on weekly tailgate topics and 1 on 1 training as needed.
• Oversee that all employees are adhering to GFL company policies and procedures.
• Compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Stock PPE cabinet and manage spill kits.
• Perform interviews and road tests for new hires.
• Assist fleet manager with yard operations and cleanliness.
• Review financials and KPI’s.
• Develop strategies to resolve the misses and implement plans.


Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

• 3 Years Waste Industry Experience working with Sideloaders, Rear Packers, Over The Tops, Front End, and Roll Off vehicles.

• 1 year supervisory experience preferred.

• Must have CDL B with Airbrakes endorsement or a CLASS A.

• WSIB certified training certificate.
• First Aid training certificate.
• Experience and strong knowledge in operating waste vehicles.
• Experience and strong knowledge of operating all company machines.
• Valid DZ/AZ class license with a clean drivers abstract preferred.
• General understanding of, Reg 347/558, WHMIS and the Highway Traffic Act.
• Able to perform a pre and post trip inspection and accident investigations.
• Previous operations, transportation, waste management experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to plan, prioritize and execute against tight timelines.
• Proficient with database, spreadsheet, and word processing computer skills within a Microsoft environment.
• Willing to work flexible hours with some travel.
