BASIC PURPOSE:The primary function of this position is to schedule and sequence routes in a timely, accurate and efficient manner using computerized programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizing specified software, route and build cost effective delivery routes by balancing customer orders per trailer by customer location, size and weight of product and pallets to be loaded while at the same time meeting customer delivery window requirements. Follow all legal and safety requirements regarding driver hours of service and carrier weight limit rules.
Work closely with Sales Managers and TMs to determine optimum route delivery day and delivery windows to help achieve or exceed cases per mile, cases per route, and on-time arrival metric goals.
Work closely with the outbound warehouse department to optimize safe zone stacking and loading of pallets for safe driver unloading and delivery. When customer orders are routed use PFC Load Builder/BY TMS Truckbuilder programs to balance cube by pallet, optimize proper zoning and stops per pallet, and set up the delivery driver for success.
Schedule drivers to routes and route start times, communicate staffing or start time changes to drivers and to management, and track assigned equipment by driver.
Prepare various reports on a daily basis and handle requests, i.e. route changes request, sequence change requests, new customer request, etc.
Maintain routing software system and WMS system parameters (RoadNet/Descartes and WMS).
Prepare the daily routing sheet with route and trailer size assignments by door. Communicate with yard jockey, shuttle drivers, and outbound warehouse for truck/trailer and door assignments, and help spot or stage trailers as needed or as required.
Schedule driver backhaul pickups and track and record backhauls to be unloaded by warehouse. Spot backhauls to unload doors as needed. Make sure all equipment is paired and ready for next day's deliveries.
Send equipment repair requests and requirements to Penske or local mechanics as needed or by shift.
Unload returning route trailers to ensure timely staging of returns by temperature zone and collection of pallets, crates, plastic, and trash to the correct locations.
Attend all required company meetings.

RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Transportation Supervisor and/or Transportation Manager; Sales and Warehouse Dept. associates; Delivery Drivers, Dispatchers, and department clerks.
External: Customers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training: High School Diploma/GED preferred;
Related Experience: A minimum of 2 years in related environment
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations. Must have computer skills – data entry, general report generation, spreadsheet design, data manipulation, mainframe downloads. Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide). Possess ability to resolve a variety of issues of fairly non-routine nature with some independence. Ability to work scheduled hours and any required overtime.
