Collegiate Sports About Rowan University

Rowan University is a public research university located in Glassboro, New Jersey. Founded in 1923, Rowan has evolved from a teacher preparation college to a top research institution that offers bachelor through doctoral degrees and professional certificates to 22,000 students through the main campus in Glassboro and the medical school campuses in Camden, Stratford, and Sewell. Rowan emphasizes research at the intersection of engineering, medicine, science, and business while ensuring excellence in undergraduate education.

Rowan strives to become a new model for higher education by being inclusive, agile, and responsive through offering diverse scholarly and creative educational experiences to meet the needs of all its students. Rowan commits to expanding access to quality educational opportunities by increasing its enrollment capacity and creating new pathways to undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and professional studies. The University is committed to keeping higher education affordable while also providing rigorous, experiential, and engaging educational experiences. Rowan also works to benefit the local and state communities by partnering with industry and regional businesses and organizations and preparing their students to be part of the skilled workforce.

Dr. Ali A. Houshmand became Rowan University’s seventh president in 2012. Since his arrival, Rowan has more than doubled its enrollment and has evolved from a well-regarded state school to a Carnegie-classified R2 national university with two medical schools and New Jersey’s first veterinary school, which will welcome its first class in fall 2025. In 2012, Houshmand oversaw the opening of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and the integration of the School of Osteopathic Medicine from the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. With both those schools becoming part of Rowan, the University became the second in the nation to offer both M.D.- and D.O- granting medical programs. Active in reshaping all aspects of the University, President Houshmand has also helped guide the success of Rowan Boulevard, a $426 million collaboration between Rowan, private developers, and the Borough of Glassboro that since 2008, has created a new downtown with housing, retail, restaurant, and academic space.
