Qualifications 

Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Care Program (required) 1 year of experience in Med/Surg or Critical Care (preferred) RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner (required) RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist (required) and BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support required prior to independent patient care and ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (required within 90 days) and NRP – Essential Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days) and NRPA – Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days)

Position Responsibilities Texas Health Resources Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) are responsible for obtaining/verifying physician order for therapy and validate for appropriateness, reviewing available medical records and obtaining pertinent medical history from patient or family, evaluating each patient using age and diagnosing appropriate assessment tests and measurement.

In addition to the required qualifications, a successful Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will

use therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment. determine patient response to treatment and evaluate progress (reassessment). educate patient and family through instruction, demonstration, or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, and home programs/self-management. maintain bedside and ventilator alarms in audible position. communicates with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues. administer medication in a safe/correct manner, adhering to medication administration guidelines. documents aspects of each treatment session in accordance with departmental, Joint Commision, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines. documents assessments of education needs, education provided, and patient understanding of education provided in accordance with departmental, JCAHO, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
