Position Number: 009647 Department: Facilities Management (Adm) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 12 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The FM Tech Mechanical Trades performs under the direction of the RUP Shop Supervisor. Duties include, but are not limited to: + Maintain, repair, and alter commercial chill water systems and equipment requiring the application of skills in planning, problem solving, and attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety. + Perform reliability centered maintenance to ensure that commercial chill water systems run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of building do not deteriorate. + Perform chill water system testing and monitoring and make recommendations for improvement/repair. + Diagnose commercial chill water problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary. + Perform basic commercial HVAC , plumbing, and general building maintenance service work as required. + This position is critical to campus research and its ability to operate seamlessly 24/7/365. Adherence to an on-call rotation is required. + EPA 608 Certification. Minimum Experience / Education: Required Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. University Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: + Associate’s degree preferred. + Ten years’ experience in performing commercial chill water system operation and repairs desired. + Experience in commercial HVAC , plumbing, and/or general building maintenance work. + North Carolina License/Certification for HVAC 1,2,3 + Solid working knowledge of Chillers + Proven track record in facilities maintenance and repair. + Plumbing/Pipe-fitter journeyman card is a plus. + Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension). + Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications, however excellent communication skills are preferred. + Computer literate. Knowledge and skill with Google Applications, Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs. + Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures. + Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with co-workers, visitors, building occupants, and the entire campus community. + Valid driver’s license required.
