The Power Delivery SAS West Region is accepting internal applications for an Area Lead (AL) for the SAS Canada I Department (Edmonton, Airdrie, and Toronto). This position will report to the SAS Canada I—Department 255 Manager. This individual will assist in managing the engineering team, reporting remotely to the Edmonton Office from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and acting as the project's responsible project engineer. Travel will be required. This is an internal-only posting and will be open through 02/04/2025.
Responsibilities:The AL shares responsibility with the DM for managing the department's day-to-day activities to produce results consistent with POWER’s mission statement and our culture. The AL is expected to achieve the goals of the department business plan, maintain POWER’s high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients. This position is also responsible for developing, maintaining, and strengthening regional client relationships.
Perform and direct others in the proposal and execution of projects in SAS’ four main discipline areas (Protection, SCADA, Transmission Planning, and Design Studies) and other advanced technology areas (Advanced Distribution Management Systems, Microgrids, Distributed Energy Resources, etc.).
Act as a multidiscipline lead to further expand SAS’ project reach and capabilities.
Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and the projects’ workload is optimally resourced.
Communicate with DM on a routine basis.
Manage all financial and technical aspects of performance for this SAS team, including, but not limited to:
Timecard Approvals
Monthly financial reporting
Weekly and monthly resource planning
Annual business plans
Appraisals
Salary/Promotion/Bonus recommendations
Department participation in KMP
Proposals
Lunch and Learns
Mentorship
Regular touch base with employees
Client business development visits
Outreach and relationship building with project managers (PMs) and local DMs from other BUs.
Lead by example by regularly working with the SAS team on active projects.
Required Education/ExperienceStationed in Canada.
Proven experience leading others on a project team or in a department.
Proven experience in growing business and engineering teams.
Ability to support SAS Canada I's growth vision and mission.
Proven experience filling the role of a project engineer.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size.
The candidate must have a strong command of the English language and good written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel. A proven record of technical publication is desired.
Ability to use communication technology to work seamlessly with remote staff and supervision. Transparency will be key to success in this position.
Proven record, ability and desire to mentor and help others.
Desired Education/ExperienceBSEE or BSEET degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university, preferably with a power option. Advanced education, such as M.Sc. or PhD, is a plus.
Professional Engineering Registration (P Eng or PE).
Experience with and established positive relationships with POWER clients.

Both temporary and permanent assignments will be considered. The assignment could be as little as three (3) years for a temporary transfer, provided a viable successor has been identified and trained.
