Safety & 5S Coordinator

Job Purpose

The Safety & 5S Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The Safety & 5S Coordinator will help to ensure everyone in the company complies with safety laws and be responsible for establishing policies and procedures that will create and maintain safe working conditions. This position includes financial responsibility of safety related budged request including equipment, signage, and services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Development & Set Up of Safety Procedures

Develop and execute health and safety plans and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Develop and oversee company training programs for employees in worksite safety practices including hazard recognition, emergency response procedures, and use of PPE. Responsible for managing the safety requirements throughout facility updates and renovation processes. Incorporates safety practices into Operations’ processes and procedures within each workstation or work area. Works closely with executive team, managers, and other facility team members to support safety guidelines. Advises management on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions. Establishing and conducting job hazard analysis (JHAs) and risk assessments including DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA, etc. Integrate 5S principles into the workplace to promote a clean, organized environment, thereby minimizing safety hazards, and improving overall workplace safety by conducting training, audits, and ensuring compliance with 5S standards across all work areas.

Regular Execution of Safety Procedures

Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of work sites, equipment, and facilities. Document, track, and report out observations and near-misses. Determine trends and create corrective action programs. Investigate incidents and accidents, identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions. Manages safety, environmental, services and/or consulting needs. Arrange for regular drills as required by local/state codes (e.g. alarms, security cameras/gates). Monitor the removal hazardous materials from all areas accessible to anyone on-site. Maintain and report on corporate database for safety related KPI’s. Promotes strong safety culture in workplace.

5S Implementation & Maintenance

Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) across all departments. Train employees on 5S methodology and best practices. Conduct 5S audits and provide feedback to departments. Develop and maintain visual controls to support 5S implementation. Promote a culture of cleanliness, organization, and efficiency.

Qualifications include:

Education, Experience and Certifications High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety preferred. A minimum of three years of experience in Safety and/or Environmental services required. Preferably in an industrial environment. OSHA-30 Certified preferred. Otherwise, must be obtainable within 90 days of hire. Experience with Loss Prevention System preferred. Experience in high complexity manufacturing environment is a plus. Skills and Abilities Strong working knowledge of functional safety standards. Proficient with Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam preferred. Knowledge of electrical preferred. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience working with all levels of employees. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and to communicate roadblocks promptly to management in a fast-paced environment Experience with hand/power tools

 

Role Classification and Working Conditions

This is a salaried, exempt-level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments.

 

Physical/Other Requirements

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical office. Shop temps can range from 50F – 100F. PPE required in many areas of work. Ability to travel, as needed, by plane, automobile, etc.
