Responsibilities

 

Lead and oversee plant safety and environmental functions under the direction and technical consultation of Corporate Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department.

Advise and assist management in decision-making and review of incident prevention activities and plant environmental, health and safety (EHS) activities. 

Assist plant management with development, implementation, and maintenance of injury prevention activities.

Recognize, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions, behaviors, and work practices. Recommend appropriate containment and corrective actions for hazard control design, methods, procedures, and processes.

Communicate and share best safety practice information with Corporate EHS.

Collaborate with allied functions such as Engineering, Security, Medical, Purchasing, Facilities and Equipment Services to ensure employee safety and compliance with all safety regulations.

Work with department supervisors to investigate company occupational incidents which include injury, illness, near misses, property damage, spills, and thermal events.

Determine root cause and corrective action.

Monitor incident management system to ensure plant incident reports and corrective actions are complete.

Perform incident trend analysis and notify management of discovered injury pattern results.

Provide recommendations for future injury prevention.

Schedule and facilitate safety-related meetings and provide feedback regarding status of employee continuous improvement (CI) safety suggestions.

Coordinate and facilitate other safety-related activities and initiatives to ensure plant safety teams remain focused and productive on incident prevention activities.

Inspect facilities and evaluate EHS related activities such as storage of dangerous fluids and gases, material handling equipment, etc. to ensure compliance with safety, environmental and health regulations.

Assist Corporate EHS in the development, implementation, and maintenance of higher-level safety programs, including but not limited to NFPA 70E, Lockout Tagout, Fall Protection, Hot Work, Confined Space, Risk Assessments, etc.

Assist with behavior-based safety observations and provide feedback.

Coordinate and/or conduct safety and environmental training sessions or meetings.

Develop and/or assist in development of EHS documents, daily start-up meetings, incident alerts or other means to maintain high hazard awareness among all employees.

Participate, serve as a resource, and assist supervisors in Toolbox meetings as needed.

Schedule and conduct EHS training for plant personnel, including lift truck training. Distribute EHS training and hazard awareness information received from Corporate EHS and maintain safety and environmental training records in Learning Management System (LMS) and employee safety files.

Monitor manufacturing facilities for on-going compliance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

2-4 years related experience Bachelor Degree (Engineer, Environmental, Health & Safety, Occupational Safety and Health)

                     Non-degree considered if 12+ years of related experience along with a high school diploma or GED

 

Occasional travel (0-5%) Occasional overnight stays (0-5%) Job requires employee to drive a lift truck

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Knowledge of safety regulations. Two to four years’ experience in EHS process operations in a commercial or manufacturing environment.
