About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off of Interstate 20. The depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees. Responsibilities Performs duties within the framework of the published Safety Office matrix of duties, which consist of industrial, explosives, and toxic chemical organizations. Develops safety criteria for new equipment and facilities. Conducts and documents hazard analyses for programs which Involve new systems or unique operations. Conducts periodic safety surveys/inspections of work areas to assure compliance with safety regulations, rules and standard practices. Establishes accident countermeasure programs and develops safety and health promotion and training programs within assigned area. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
