Summary Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist. Make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment. Duty Location: Santa Nella, California Responsibilities Reviews applicable construction plans and specifications for adequacy of safety provisions and inclusion of safety requirements for the features to be constructed. Prepares and instructs on safety information to train and motivate field and office personnel in accident prevention concepts, practices, and techniques. Regularly inspects all phases of construction for observance of safety standards, codes, and practices. Consults with field supervisors and initiates action to remove all possible safety hazards and follows up to ascertain status of corrective action. Prepares reports of safety monitoring activities. Investigates accidents resulting in loss or damage to Government or contractors' property and/or injury to their personnel while on the job. Conducts periodic industrial type noise evaluation and ventilation studies. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. Qualifications In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume. To qualify at the GS-9, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-7 level in federal service having demonstrated experience performing periodic onsite surveys; preparing or revising safety instructions and guidelines; advising personnel of appropriate safety and occupational health measures; investigating mishaps, obtaining statements from witnesses; recording circumstances of mishaps and extent of injuries; preparing final report(s) of findings. You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having a Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university with a major field of study in safety or occupational health fields or other related fields such as safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and/or industrial psychology OR LL.B. OR J.D., if related. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications. To qualify at the GS-11, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-9 level in federal service having demonstrated experience conducting safety inspections at construction project sites pertaining to heavy construction and equipment operations; identifying and controlling hazardous and unsafe construction operations/construction site conditions; ensuring compliance with safety and occupational health policies and regulations; investigating construction accidents, resolving safety hazards with field engineers, construction representatives and construction contractors. You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having a PH.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university with a major field of study in safety or occupational health fields or other related fields such as safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and/or industrial OR LL.M. if related. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 01/20/2025.
