Responsibilities You will plan, organize, and direct Occupational Safety and Health projects to minimize or eliminate human injury, property, and/or productivity losses. You will develop supplements to current Occupational Safety and Health standards and regulations. You will work closely with various shipyard personnel to implement or improve program requirements. You will investigate reports and gather mishap statistics and take appropriate action to prevent further mishaps. You will participate in meetings where you will be expected to provide insight and give recommendations on causes for root cause analysis. You will provide training material and guidance to subordinate Occupational Safety and Health personnel. You will oversee industrial work, inspect facilities and work spaces, perform inspections, and/or audits to meet regulatory requirements and ensure a safe workplace. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector evaluating and analyzing safety and occupational health program regulations, identifying occupational hazards and providing corrective action to work place safety for industrial construction, repair, overhaul or maintenance operations to ensure workplace safety. For GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assessing safety and occupational health program regulations for industrial construction, repair, overhaul or maintenance operations to ensure workplace safety. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Safety and Occupational Health Management Series 0018 Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education GS-12: There is no substitution of education at this grade level. GS-11: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related Additional Information This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
