Safety and Training Supervisor - Transportation JobID: 13489 + Position Type: Specialist/Supervisor/Technician + Date Posted: 10/10/2024 + Location: ELSC - Transportation + Date Available: ASAP    Safety & Training Supervisor $55,000 per year PRINCIPAL DUTIES + Develop and implement transportation training and safety programs for the Transportation Department + Oversee all transportation training, including personnel in yellow bus, vans, new hires, district staff, and Americorps volunteers, including appropriate instructor certifications + Create, implement, and enforce policies regarding safety + Respond to accidents, investigate, and submit district, state and federal reports involving district vehicles + Lead the hiring, training, and evaluating of transportation personnel + Participates in regular department and district safety meetings + Evaluating school bus routes and stops for safety + Conduct and resolve prompt, thorough and impartial investigations regarding bus safety, personnel, and student concerns, and escalate when necessary + Leads the interview and hiring process for the Transportation Department + Analyze department staffing to determine hiring needs + Works with local law enforcement to eliminate stop arm violations by investigating violations and submitting reports + Maintain a safe working environment + Possess a thorough working knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and contracts related to safe school vehicle operation, and ensure the district maintains compliance + Backup to fleet operations including dispatch and fleet management in absence of the Fleet Manager + Communicates with administration, parents, students, and transportation personnel to assist in finding supports for students and bus staff for a safe bus ride + Preferred to maintain proper license to operate vehicles and equipment + Analyze data to develop programs that address safety + Maintain all staff records, driver certifications, licenses and medical certificates, Iowa Department of Education school bus authorization, FMCSA Clearinghouse pre employment and annual queries, third party random drug and alcohol list, and other required documents + Assist in development of routes + Assist in the assessment of road conditions + Work in routing system, word processing, email, spreadsheets, presentation software and other programs as necessary + Work as a team member on various projects + Operate two-way radio + Answer telephone, email, messages, etc., resolving questions and issues, and escalating when necessary + Communicate with school administrators, staff and parents + Maintain confidential information + Other duties as assigned PREPARATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS + Driving record acceptable to the District’s insurance carrier + Preferred experience with CDL or Chauffeur's License with passenger endorsement + Preferred experience with safety programs and training with large groups + Experience in handling escalating situations, and de-escalation techniques + Exceptional oral and written communication skills + Proficiency in telephone skills, typing, and filing + Work independently with minimum supervision + Ability to organize, prioritize, and initiates responsibility + Ability to adjust work hours to meet the needs of the district and the transportation department. + Proficiency in computer programs, possess advanced computer skills + Knowledge of general office procedures + Work under pressure with frequent interruptions while maintaining detail and accuracy + Representing the transportation department in a professional manner + Commitment to participating on an office team + Commitment to district and department mission statement + Other duties as assigned ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
