JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Attendant provides one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of identifying behaviors which are potentially hazardous to self or others in accordance with facility policies and procedures; reports needs and concerns to licensed nurse.
Patient Care: Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse. Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment. Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, providers, and all levels of healthcare.
Obtains and documents vital signs as prescribed. Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members. Resolves conflicts independently as appropriate.Nursing Expertise: Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques. Administers medication as prescribed by the physician appropriately and in a timely manner. Adheres to safety measures.The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: N/A
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing as applicable. Is knowledgeable regarding guidelines for infection control, body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics. Maintains acceptable standards set by those guidelines. Completes a de-escalation class within 90 days of hire.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Ability to work with elderly patients or act as a companion.

The job requires standing and walking constantly and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
