The Safety Attendant will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students while they are being transported via bus. This includes assisting students in boarding and disembarking safely, securing seat belts, Child Safety Restraint Systems (CSRS), or specialized equipment as required. The Safety Attendant will also ensure appropriate student behavior, assist in emergency situations, and support the bus driver in maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Assistance & Safety:

Assist students in boarding and disembarking safely, ensuring proper use of seat belts, CSRS, and/or specialized equipment as required by local laws or the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). Ensure students remain seated and properly restrained with seat belts, CSRS, or wheelchair-occupant restraint systems when necessary. Encourage safe and appropriate behavior among students and intervene in cases of life-threatening or serious situations. Complete School Bus Misbehavior Reports when corrective action is required and provide them to the Project Manager (PM) or School Transportation Officer (STO).

Passenger Supervision:

Ensure students disembark the vehicle at their correct stops and that younger students (as identified by the COR) are released only to a parent or designated caregiver. Assist the driver in ensuring there are no passengers or personal belongings left on the bus after each run.

Communication:

Maintain clear and respectful communication with students, using English and positive reinforcement to promote safe behavior. Prepare reports on student behavior and assist in handling any incidents that may arise during transportation.

Safety & Emergency Response:

In the event of an accident or incident, assess passengers for injuries and provide first aid or CPR as required until emergency personnel arrive. Take control of situations involving medical emergencies or unsafe behavior to ensure student safety. Participate in school bus safety training and evacuation drills held twice per school year, as requested by the STO.

Pre-Run Vehicle Inspection:

Complete pre-run safety and security inspections of the bus, ensuring the vehicle is safe for operation. Assist the driver in displaying the correct route number signs once the pre-run inspection is complete.

General Administrative Support:

Assist drivers and dispatchers with daily operational tasks. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall operations.
