Job Summary

The Safety/CI Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, coordination, facilitation and supervision of the facility's safety/continious improvement programs and initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Safety

Regularly inspects facility operations to ensure that safe job practices are followed,protective equipment is properly utilized, and all required machine/process guards are in place and operationalInvestigates and facilitate the investigation of all accidents and near-miss occurrences identify trends and causes and ensures that corrective measures are implementedWorks with management to develop safety programs and incentives as appropriateConducts new hire training and ensures new employees understand safety practices and policiesProvides training to employees on the safe and appropriate operation of machinery and equipmentChairs the Safety CommitteeEnsures the facility maintains the proper number of personnel trained in first aid and CPR and that the required level of safety and medical supplies are maintained in inventoryConducts and certifies all forklift trainingCoordinates annual fire inspection tours and planned/unplanned tours by other safety and health regulatory agenciesMonitors facility hearing conservation programCoordinates work duties for employees on medical restrictionsMaintains appropriate communication with immediate management, Human Resources, and third-party claims administratorsMaintains OSHA 300 log and other required reportsPrepares regular and special reports as requiredPerforms other duties as required

Principle Duties and Responsibilities - Continuous Improvement

Establish and build the plant’s Continuous Improvement TeamCoordinate the activities of the site Lean initiative while working with the Continuous Improvement Team on some or all of the stated dutiesEvaluate operations to identify areas of waste and opportunities for improvementAudits completed initiatives for sustainabilityFacilitate VSM and Kaizen activitiesDevelop, prioritize, and implement solutions to reduce waste and improve performanceDocument and standardize improvementsTracks and updates KPI’sWork with operations and Operational Excellence Team to drive cost out and documents improvementsTeach, coach, and mentor all levels of employees in Continuous Improvement and manufacturing principlesTrain employees to identify and eliminate wasteDevelop programs to foster employee involvement to promote a Continuous Improvement cultureAttend seminars, lectures, and training classes on Continuous Improvement and share gained knowledge with plant staffPrepares regular and special reports as requiredPerforms other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum high school graduatePreferably one to two years of experience in safety/CI EnvironmentWorking knowledge of 5s, Kanban, standardized workflow, value stream mapping, Kaizen, and visual environment/factoryWorking knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer and business-related software, including Microsoft applications Excel, Word and OutlookPreferred experience in First Aid and CPR and working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations
