Earth Sciences and Engineering specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.

We are currently seeking a Safety Professional to join the E&S team based in the Boston, MA Area to support the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The ideal candidate will have transit safety knowledge at an overall Authority level and a strong understanding of safety and operational best practices across the transit industry. A Board-Certified Safety Professional (CSP, STS, etc.) in the transit space is ideal.

The Hatch E&S team undertakes studies and delivers environmental services in the areas of safety, construction management, remediation, investigation, Impact Assessments (IAs), planning, permitting, community engagement, sustainability/corporate social responsibility, climate change and related project delivery services.  Our wealth of engineering, safety, environmental, procurement and construction management experience and our global footprint is highly differentiated in the growing environmental services market. As a seasoned career professional, you will work closely with transit safety leads and Board-Certified Safety Professionals for MBTA.


A typical day for you

Collaborating with team members and clients to develop best management practices for Safety System Implementations in the transit sector. Leading and contributing to Safety Process Management Standards development.  Contributing to Transit Safety Plan developments in accordance with 49 CFR 673. Contributing to Safety Management System development and implementation. Managing projects and client’s safety outcomes. Developing processes to address the Federal Transit Administrations Corrective Action Plans. Safety Investigation Processes improvement and support. Consulting with clients to develop safety project briefings and sourcing information. Producing deliverables and reports to meet client requirements for projects. Mentoring juniors in the Boston Transit Safety team, and educating project teams around their safety commitments, and potential constraints.

 

What We'll Love About You

 

Bachelor of Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent environment/safety/sustainability degree. This person will have incorporated knowledge of Safety Management standards, Safety Process implementation, with excellent project management skills, along with strong client relationship and communication. The person who accepts this role will be highly organized, with attention to detail, quality, and project delivery. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

 

Essentials:

 

Provide leadership, technical direction, peer review, and advice within our existing Boston Transit Safety Team, to address client requirements. Working with the larger account team to serve the client across multiple projects. Strong Project Management skills for coordination of key safety deliverables. Develop and write key client deliverables. Work collaboratively with integrated, multidisciplinary teams, liaising with and supporting global peers.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

 

Bachelor of Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent environment/safety/sustainability degree. Hold and maintain a Board-Certified Professional Safety Certification. A minimum of 5-years’ experience in managing and delivering safety programs and regulatory approval activities for large transit and/or infrastructure clients. In-depth understanding of Federal Transit Authority and Department of Public Utilities’ safety requirements in accordance with 49 CFR 673 and 49 CFR 674 revision. Experience working on major linear and transit programs. Entrepreneurial with a technical soul. Effectively managing internal and external stakeholders. Effective, open communication and presentation style with the ability to plan and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables.
