Safety Coordinator

The Safety Site Coordinator (with support from the Site Leadership Team/Safety Manager) is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of processes to maintain environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance and to continuously reduce risk. This position provides expertise relating to applicable regulations, controls and state-of-the art methods of safety management.
Safety Coordinators will manage relevant data to ensure all required reporting and communication to regulators is complete and accurate. They will lead by implementing improvements in facility management systems, internal environmental audits, corrective action plans and continuous improvement activities.
This role will build safety capability within the site, to include safety management system element owners/members of safety element teams/subcommittees. Build and leverage relationships with formal/informal leaders to drive safety down, up and across the organization.
Direct Responsibilities:
+ Maintain 1st Aid Kits & EAP (Emergency Action Plan) Equipment
+ Support/Deliver Weekly Toolbox Talks
+ Verify Site has/maintains an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with emergency services including, but not limited to, medical, fire, and police.
+ Perform Site Safety Orientation to newly assigned employees.
+ Maintain (order & stock) Site PPE Storage & Management
+ Perform and maintain Site & Subcontractor training and tracking to include, but not limited to, equipment operations, confined space, hazardous control / LOTO (Lock Out / Tag Out), electrical safety, machine guarding, ergonomics, industrial hygiene and hazard communication/chemical management and hazard identification.
+ Attend OAC/GC Meetings
+ Perform site observations and inspections recorded in SMS (Safety Management System-currently Procore)
+ Capture and investigate site incidents through SMS (Procore)
+ Maintain and ensure workforce site posters/signage are current.
+ Address and manage initial injury incidents occurring on site.
+ Maintain a deep-level understanding of existing environmental permit requirements. Ensure required activities are performed and data is accurate/organized/maintained/reported (as required).
+ Support site leadership with OSHA and regulatory visits and inspections.
+ All other duties assigned.
Indirect Responsibilities:
+ Pre-construction documentation in support of requested safety requirements.
+ Review safety critical tasks such as Hot Work Permits, Crane Lift Plans, Confined Space Entry, and the like.
+ Maintain HazCom systems with SDS (Safety Data Sheet) library and proper storage of combustible and flammable materials.
+ Provide input on updates / changes to Polk Safety Policy.
+ Provide input and support to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) needs and use.
+ Provide input on updates / changes for training material.
Education:
+ Minimum of OSHA 30 and/or OSHA 510
+ CSHO (Certified Safety & Health Official) as outlined by TEEX or OSHA Outreach
+ CHST (Certified Health & Safety Technician) as outlined by BCSP
+ Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety desired
Experience:
+ Experience implementing safety processes and programs
+ Experience tracking, trending and reporting EHS related data
+ Experience influencing and selling EHS ideas
+ 3 or more years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety desired
Skills and Abilities:
+ Strong knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations
+ Excellent communication skills (verbal/written)
+ Ability to effectively communicate at various levels of the organization
+ Excellent organization skills
+ Proficient in Excel
