Safety Engineer - Supplemental

To ensure a safe manufacturing environment, our Occupational Health and Safety Engineering team plays a crucial role in hazard prevention, conducting safety audits, providing training, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.

You'll have... 

Bachelor’s degree Significant experience with machine safety expertise and risk assessment techniques Firm comprehensive knowledge of safety control architectures and programmable safety systems as it relates to safeguarding strategies required by ISO 13849 Ability to actively participate, lead teams, teach, and drive consensus Manufacturing and facilities experience required Strong interpersonal and exceptional communications skills required Strong analytical, problem solving and organization skills 5 years of safety engineering experience in manufacturing and construction environments 30 or more hours of OSHA construction safety instruction or equivalent program Ability to travel both domestically and internationally. Travel may be extensive and frequent Organized documentation and record retention Expertise in Microsoft suite of applications

BS Engineering BS Engineering Technology Global regulatory/standard knowledge (both internal (Ford Motor Company) and external e.g. ISO Standards) High level of UAW interface/negotiation experience Full command of all elements of the Ford Safety Operating System

What you'll do...

Interface/liaison/achieve working relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturers and other Ford Safety personnel (including Corporate NA and EU Safety)/Staff Engineering/Plant, Engineering, designated H&S reps./consultants, Ford Land and various departments such as Ergonomics, Virtual Engineering, Material Handling, Controls, Environmental etc…) under the ONE Ford Vision Take lead in project safety management for construction and machine installation activities on assigned programs Anticipate, recognize and evaluate hazards and associated risks in all three phases of PTME Machine Safety Acceptance Process milestones namely, Design, Run-off and Launch including the ability to identify the appropriate safeguarding measures using the hierarchy of controls. Understand and interpret relevant global safety standards and specifications in ensuring safety compliance for all Powertrain new model programs Develop procedures and conduct safety presentations or training programs for various levels of PTME leadership, including commodity engineers Support/lead in the resolution of global Powertrain manufacturing engineering safety concerns/issues by providing sound engineering technical expertise to commodity safety engineers/machine tool builders/contractors/etc.  Support/lead in the investigation of safety incidents/near misses/lessons learned and update standards/requirements as needed to prevent recurrence Present the knowledge, confidence and ability to take immediate and appropriate actions in regard to establishing appropriate safeguarding measures and machine design requirements to support the ME Controls strategy and compliance to Corporate Safety Standards
