Safety Engineering Intern

First Quality Retail Services, LLC in Lewistown, PA is seeking talented, team-oriented, college students for its Internship Programs. We have one goal: providing you with real life, hands-on experience!  These positions are full-time, paid positions where you will work on real projects with real results!

Purpose and role of job:

Provide technical skills in the operation and support of the environmental health and safety program to maintain an accident-free work environment and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.

Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with FQ local, State and Federal OSHA rules and regulationsAspires to achieve a zero injury culture through visible support of the injury prevention and safety programEnsure required safety training is complete for all team members and training records are maintained.Participate in the new hire safety orientation processAssist organization in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe activitiesConduct regular walk through safety inspections to identify hazards, document findings, recommend corrective actions and follow through to ensure corrections have been madeAssist in establishing policies for preventive actions through studying incidents and potential risks in general work environmentsEnsure incident investigation, mitigation and reporting process is followedBuild and maintain positive working relationships with all team members, vendors and customersFacilitate communication of company safety policies, procedures and standards with all visitors, including contractors and vendorsComplete administrative responsibilities and documentation, including training records, accident/incident reporting, OSHA log updates, employee files and workers compensation claim filingAssist in overall workers compensation administration and coordination of the Return-to-Work program for injured team membersPerform other duties as assigned

Education and experience requirements:

Bachelor’s degree (or demonstrated progress toward a degree) in related field of study Minimum 3.0 GPA0-3 years of experience, including academic projectsHighly motivated, strong team player, with good ability to multi-task and re-prioritize as necessaryStrong problem solving skills.Strong interpersonal skillsStandard knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office programs.Excellent verbal and written skillsAuthorization to work in the U.S.

Work Environment:

In wet, hot and cold environments inside and outside of the facilityIn ear, eye and foot protection areasUnder pressure of deadlines and manage moderate levels of stress

Physical Requirements:

Lift up to 25 poundsWalk long distancesClimb stepsBend, stoop, stretchStand for long periods of timeType and read small print on screen and blueprints/schematicsAbility to travel as needed to other sites via commercial airline or vehicle
