This position is designated for hybrid and telework options, after successful completion of a 6-month probation period:
+ Hybrid for State of MN allows an employee to work a portion of the time remotely with a regular schedule of time at the designated office.
+ Telework for State of MN allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.
+ Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are eligible.
This position requires in-state travel as much as 20% of the time. Position will require some overnight travel.
This position exists to prevent and reduce the occurrence of occupational injuries and illnesses in Minnesota workplaces through the enforcement of occupational safety and health standards.
**Responsibilities include:**
+ Identify, resolve, and document apparent violations and/or hazards during compliance inspections.
+ Write field investigation reports documenting nature, scope, and findings of violations.
+ Perform follow-up and referral investigations.
+ Identify, evaluate, and manage imminent danger hazards reported or encountered so that prompt and effective corrective action is taken.
+ Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of applicable health and safety laws, regulations, standards, codes, and policies to effectively perform all job requirements.
+ Represent Minnesota OSHA (MNOSHA) and the agency on contacts with external constituents, such as injured workers and/or their next of kin; OSHA delegates from other states; public and private sector employers and employees, business representatives; unions and trades associations; and Federal OSHA.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
**Minimum Qualifications**
· Eighteen months professional occupational safety and health experience* where responsibilities involved industrial hygiene sampling, the interpretation and application of safety and health standards and regulations. Experience must include responsibility for implementing safety and health programs, identifying hazards in the workplace, and abating those hazards. (i.e. Industrial Hygienist, Safety Manager, Safety Director, Safety Coordinator).
* Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health or Engineering will substitute for 18 months of experience;
*Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health or Construction Management will substitute for 1 year of experience.
In addition to the above experience, applicants will be evaluated on and must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:
+ Communication skills sufficient to write technical reports, communicate information to the public and effectively use technology.
+ Math skills sufficient to calculate sampling times, volumes, concentrations, and averages to accurately report results.
+ Ability to use personal protective and testing equipment.
+ Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, ascend ladders, work in loud environments, and transport up to 20 pounds.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or common experiences.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Knowledge of Minnesota and federal occupational health and safety standards sufficient to determine violations and assess penalties.
+ Knowledge of inspecting and auditing techniques sufficient to facilitate interaction and enforce the health and safety provisions of OSHA.
+ Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Risk Control and Safety Management; **OR**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Construction Management AND two (2) years’ experience where responsibilities involved the interpretation and application of safety and health standards or regulations. Experience must include responsibility for implementing safety and health programs, identifying hazards in the workplace, and abating those hazards. (i.e. safety manager, safety director, safety coordinator); **OR**
+ Completion of an approved apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and Industry AND four (4) years of occupational safety and health experience where responsibilities involved the interpretation and application of safety and health standards and regulations. Experience must include responsibility for implementing safety and health programs, identifying hazards in the workplace, and abating those hazards. (i.e. safety manager, safety director, safety coordinator; **OR**
+ Associate’s Degree in a job-related field (construction management, production management, construction trades, etc.) AND four (4) years of occupational safety and health experience where responsibilities involved the interpretation and application of safety and health standards and regulations. Experience must include responsibility for implementing safety and health programs, identifying hazards in the workplace, and abating those hazards. (i.e. safety manager, safety director, safety coordinator).
+ Language skills other than English (Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
**Additional Requirements**
