Safety Manager

BAE Systems is currently recruiting for an experienced Safety Manager to support our Norfolk Ship Repair facility. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of direct and indirect reports including Supervisors, Safety Specialists, Safety Techs, Competent Persons, and administrative staff that support the safe execution of shipyard repair and production activities in accordance with the corporate safety policy and all federal, state, and local regulations. You will also develop working partnerships across the organization that promote a positive, proactive approach to ensuring worker health and safety; create and maintain an effective method for review of work processes to ensure a robust approach to hazard identification, risk assessment and the implementation of operational controls; and establish and maintain the infrastructure and organization necessary to consistently deliver industry leading Safety and Health performance. Other responsibilities will include: + Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, consensus standards, and customer requirements. + Conduct Incident investigations. Train Safety Staff in Incident Investigation and personally engage management with the investigation process. Make recommendations for process improvement and hazard mitigation. + Arrange for robust safety inspections across the facility. Train in inspection methods and provide personal oversight of these inspections. + Ensure adequate risk assessment, hazard analysis and determination of controls of work processes throughout the facility. Train employees in risk assessment, root cause analysis, hazard analysis, and elimination / mitigation measures. + Provide project management team with guidance on health and safety and confirm project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations. + Schedule, conduct, and oversee occupational safety and health training. Ensure that all employees are appropriately trained in safety practice and protocol commensurate with the requirements of their position. + Provide subject matter expertise and consultation necessary to advance the safety culture of the organization. + Review and update Safety and Occupational Health policies and procedures, ensuring they are accurate, current, and reflect the latest Regulatory, Industry, and Company standards and requirements. (Gas Free, Industrial Hygiene, OSHA, SHE Assurance). + Create an environment of actively engaged partnering, coaching, directing, and when necessary, enforcement of company and regulatory requirements. + Based on injury data analysis, employee interviews, risk assessments, past incidents, & near misses, etc., lead proactive projects that reduce risk. + Report the status of metrics and performance to business and market leaders. + Responsible for maintaining external certification programs, specifically OSHA VPP Star and ISO:45001. + Participate in industry organizations: Virginia Ship Repair Association, NAVSEA SSRAC. **Required Education, Experience, & Skills** + Typically requires a Bachelor s degree in a Safety, Health, Environmental, or Engineering discipline, and eight (8) years of related experience, or the overall equivalent. + Proficient in OSHA regulations, consensus standards. + Familiarity with NAVSEA standards. + Capable of recognizing risks and hazards associated with shipyard activities. + Requires use of conceptual and innovative thinking (i.e., identifying solutions). + Developed communication skills to exchange complex information, including training. + Basic knowledge of industrial hygiene (IH) principles. + Experienced people manager. Position oversees both direct reports (6) and indirect reports (12 ). Ability to lead, mentor, train, and develop personnel across shifts. + Computer capable with skills to include MS: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. + Familiarity with project and department budget tools. **Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills** + Experience working in manufacturing or a shipyard environment. + Proficiency in NAVSEA standards. + Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or in the process of obtaining. + Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA, 30-hour Maritime Safety and Industry Standards plus familiarity with 29 CFR Part 1915 highly desirable. + Familiarity with the concepts of Serious Injury and Fatality programs. + Knowledgeable in Safety & Health management systems such as ISO 45001. + Root cause analysis software experience. **Pay Information** Full-Time Salary Range: $105835 - $179920 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
