The Safety Officer will ensure the safety and well-being of personnel during site walk-throughs and assessments at power generation plants. This role is critical in identifying potential hazards, enforcing safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with HSE standards throughout all site activities. The Safety Officer will also provide guidance to the site assessment team, including subject matter experts (SMEs), and collaborate with the plant's operational safety teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Planning and Coordination:
Conduct pre-walk-through safety briefings to ensure all team members understand site-specific hazards and emergency protocols. Coordinate with the plant’s operational safety teams to review existing HSE policies and risk assessments relevant to the walk-through. Ensure that appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and used correctly by all team members.2. Hazard Identification and Risk Mitigation:
Identify and assess potential hazards during site walk-throughs, including electrical, mechanical, chemical, and environmental risks. Monitor team activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols and intervene when unsafe practices are observed. Implement control measures to mitigate risks and ensure safe work environments during inspections.3. Compliance Monitoring:
Ensure all site activities comply with local regulations, plant-specific safety policies, and international HSE standards. Conduct real-time inspections to verify compliance with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined space entry protocols, and equipment handling guidelines.4. Emergency Preparedness:
Ensure that emergency response plans are communicated and understood by all team members. Act as the primary point of contact for any safety incidents during the walk-through and coordinate with site emergency teams as necessary.5. Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of all safety-related observations, including identified hazards, near-miss incidents, and safety improvements implemented. Prepare safety reports after each walk-through, summarizing key observations and recommendations for improved safety practices.Qualifications:
