Position Overview
This posting is for a Safety Professional to be located at the Anacortes Refinery in Anacortes WA. The successful candidate must be able to work closely with all departments and with personnel at all levels of the organization, including operations maintenance, contractors, and other Safety Professionals in support of the Anacortes Refinery’s Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security programs.
Key Responsibilities
+ The Safety Professional is responsible for a wide range of safety activities including program development and interpretation, conducting safety training, auditing and corrective actions.
+ Providing support as the point of contact person for an operations area team on all safety issues.
+ Supporting the refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure and supporting emergency response team training and equipment checks and maintenance.
+ Supporting the refinery as a technical resource for safety issues including interpretation of standards and regulations, accident/incident investigations, and maintenance turnaround support.
+ Rotational on call duty including weekends and holidays required.
+ Developing, coordinating, and presenting various safety training courses to refinery personnel.
+ Continuously assess safety risks within the area, develop and execute mitigation plans to address risks.
+ Engaging in project related work by participating in the review and approval of plan development, Management of Change reviews and project safety plans.
+ Conduct field engagement audits, reviewing work permits, correct deficiencies, identify improvement opportunities and help drive improvement.
+ Engage with our contractor business partners to communicate safety expectations and help them meet company objectives.
+ Work with Operations and Maintenance to investigate near misses and incidents in their area to prevent recurrence.
+ Providing safety related input in the development and review of operating procedures.
+ Serving as an advocate for first line employees to help them safely complete work.
+ Ensuring OSHA regulatory compliance.
+ Interacting with refinery personnel to ensure safety procedures and regulations are followed.
+ Other safety, health and emergency response activities as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum
+ High school diploma or GED required with 2 years of relevant experience, or
+ Bachelor’s degree in HES-related field with no relevant experience
+ Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
+ A valid driver’s license is required.
+ This candidate should be familiar with OSHA Standards.
Preferred
+ High school diploma or GED required with 4 years of relevant experience, or
+ Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Safety Management- or Industrial Hygiene-related discipline with 2 years of relevant experience
+ GSP, ASP, CSP, or CIH certifications.
+ Experience in the refining or petrochemical industry.
Skills
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, OneNote) and the ability to leverage these tools for effective communication and coordination.
+ Strong coordination skills, demonstrated through successful interdisciplinary project management (crafts, operations, environmental, inspection, engineering).
+ Leadership abilities to conduct and facilitate meetings with various stakeholders.
+ Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with both frontline workers and leadership.
+ Experience and/or comfort with presenting training material in both hands on and classroom settings
+ Self-motivated, good time management, and mechanically inclined
