Job Title:            Safety/Sr. Safety and Risk Manager

Department:      Administration/Legal

Reports To:         Director/Senior Director of Legal Affairs

Pay Grade:           E6 Safety and Risk Manager, E7 Sr. Safety and Risk Manager

Job Type:             Regular, Full-Time

General Functions:  

Under the direction of the Director/Senior Director of Legal Affairs, Safety and Risk Manager is responsible for managing the organization’s comprehensive risk management program, including through development and implementation of programs related to loss prevention, occupational health and safety requirements, and licensing and accreditation standards. These responsibilities also include duties related to corporate insurance and workers' compensation claim management.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Identify potential hazards and risks within the workplace:Inspect the physical work environment and equipment and review procedures and processes for potential risks and issues.Assess the likelihood and severity of harm related to identified risks.Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.Develop and support a culture of safety:Lead the Health and Safety Committee.Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees.Monitor safety procedures and work to develop changes as necessary.Collaborate with other departments to address safety concerns.Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and standards:Collaborate on the development of emergency response plans and emergency preparedness exercises.Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual emergency drills and inspections for CITC facilities and assets are conducted and documented, as required by regulation or accreditation standards.Conduct regular safety inspections and audits and develop improvement plans.Maintain records of safety activities and incidents.   Manage the workers’ compensation program:Lead workers’ compensation insurance processes, including procurement, reporting, inspections, and responses to audits and reconciliations.Coordinate with insurance carriers, Human Resources staff, and department managers on workers’ compensation injury claims and processes, including light-duty and return-to-duty policies and programs to minimize lost time.

Sr. Manager

Identify any potential hazards and monitor compliance with workplace safety requirements.Review incident reports and respond to those related to health and safety.Develop training presentations for employees on topics required by regulation or accreditation or in response to an identified risk or best practice and work with Human Resources staff to provide training.Review safety procedures and work to develop changes as necessary.Participate in periodic updates of emergency response plans and in emergency preparedness exercises.Review records of monthly, quarterly, and annual emergency drills and inspections for completion and accuracy.Prepare applications and reports and responses for worker’s compensation insurance and facilitate any requested visits or inspections by insurance carriers.Follow up on any worker’s compensation claims with Human Resources staff, and department managers to ensure proper administration of benefits and safe return to work.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Manager

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety, and Health or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.  Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional-level risk management and loss control program experience.

 SR Manager

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety, and Health or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.  Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible professional-level risk management and loss control program experience.

Minimum Qualifications for all Levels: 

Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications or be able to obtain them within three months from the date of hire.Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License and be insurable under CITC's automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age.Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of state and federal background checks.

 

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and consistently working on a computer with repetitive motion.The need to occasionally move around the office to access filing cabinets, storage cabinets, and office equipment may be necessary.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.Performs field site visits and inspections which require working near moving equipment and traffic, walking on uneven or slippery surfaces, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
